Units within the Strategy and Planning department support a complex portfolio of projects and programs, from ideation to completion. The department aligns strategic initiatives with organizational goals with a key focus on collaboration and stakeholder engagement. These teams serve as crucial links between the IT organization and the broader CSU System communities, facilitating partnerships that drive technological innovation and institutional success.

Peggy McCready, Ed.D., Assistant Vice President for Strategy and Planning
Serving as the Division of IT’s Assistant Vice President for Strategy and Planning at Colorado State University, Peggy McCready oversees a diverse array of units and functions crucial to the university’s operations, including Campus Communications and Engagement, Project Management Services, Web Services, Finance, and Strategic Planning and IT Governance. Peggy joined CSU in April 2022, where she assumed the role of Senior Advisor to the Vice President IT and CIO, swiftly transitioning to the position of Assistant Vice President of Strategy and Planning by March 2023.

Over the course of her career, Peggy has contributed to national and international conversations about the important role technology plays in fostering innovation in teaching and learning. She has a broad-based experience in higher education and has led a variety of IT departments and functions for several leading research universities, including the University of Pennsylvania, Northwestern, the University of Oxford, New York University, Yale University, and Temple University. She holds a Doctorate of Education from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Education from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Humanities from Pennsylvania State University.

Units

Finance

The Finance team works broadly across the Division of IT to lead the fiscal stewardship of the Division’s $35M budget that includes central funding, cost recovery, State of Colorado Joint Technology Committee funding, and grants. Responsibilities for this unit include budget building and forecasting projections, financial monitoring, reporting and analysis, administration of internal budget controls, and assurance of overall compliance with university policies and procedures.

Communications and Engagement

The Campus Communications and Engagement team works in close partnership with IT staff members and key stakeholders from across the CSU System to develop communication and marketing materials that promote IT services and effectively communicate projects and strategic initiatives that will have a broad-based impact on each campus. This team has responsibility for all client-facing and external communications, including oversight of the Division’s website.

Project Management Services

The Project Management Services team plays a pivotal role in delivering IT projects that contribute to the division’s mission in close partnership with IT staff members and in collaboration with key stakeholders from across the University. Responsibilities for this unit include managing the intake of IT project requests, guiding active projects to a successful result, and developing tools and templates to promote the Project Management discipline within the organization.

Web Services

The Web Services team ensures the smooth operation and maintenance of the organization’s websites and web-based applications and provides training for customers to take ownership of their web presence. The team is responsible for hosting, custom website development and providing support for customers to manage their own web presence. They work to ensure that the organization’s website is accessible, reliable, and secure.

Strategic Planning and IT Governance

The Strategic Planning and IT Governance team works broadly across the CSU System to plan and implement the strategic goals of the CSU IT Strategic Plan. This unit leads the development of the new IT Governance Structure, which will include the ongoing management and coordination after the new structure is established.
